The Academy Awards
The Oscars, AKA the Academy Awards, are the most renowned and preferred film awards. The Academy of Motion Picture humanities and Science or AMPAS situated in Beverly Hills, California started it in May 1929. In 1941 the secret envelope system started which exists until this date. This was the way the phrase “the envelope please” became famous. The members of this academy are invited by the Board of Governors to join. The membership has 15 branches each based mostly on the different categories of awards. The gold plated statuettes are also presented as the Oscar of Merit. It’s got a black metal base and weights 8.5 lb and 13.5 in. tall knight holding a crusader’s blade standing over a film reel with 5 spokes, which represent the 5 main classes of awards. It was created by George Stanley and Alex Smith and since that time the Academy Awards have been manipulated only once. 40 Oscars are made for each yearly Oscars in Chicago, Illinois. They’re presented each year for flicks, which have been produced in the last 12 months. The minimum length of the film should be 40 mins and the minimum resolution should be 1280×720 in order to qualify as a feature-length. The Oscars were held on Thursdays until 1954. It began to be held on Sundays from 1999. For almost 60 years the Oscars were held in later March or early Apr. Since 2004 it is being held in late Feb or early March.
The first awards rite was held at the Hotel Roosevelt in Hollywood. The envoy Hotel and Biltmore Hotel were the venues until early 1940s. Next locale was Grauman’s Chinese Theater, which was followed by the Shrine Auditorium.
In 1949 the awards were presented at the Oscar Theater. For the subsequent 10 years the location was Pantages Theater in Hollywood. Next in line was Santa Monica Civic Auditorium in Santa Monica. Then the celebration was shifted back to Los Angeles in 1968 at the L. A. Music Center and Shrine Auditorium which was held there till 1988. In 2002 it was eventually shifted to Kodak Theater in Hollywood. Oscars recognizes abilities in field like acting, screenwriting, production, direction and technician. The sole 3 films that have won awards in all of the classes are “It Occurred One Night”,” One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” and “The Silence of the Lambs”.
This achievement is sometimes called the Giant 5 or Oscar Grand Slam. 3 films hold the record for winning most number of Oscars, which are “Ben-Hur” in 1959, “Titanic” in 1997 and “The Return of the King” in 2003. On the awards night, invitees walk the red carpet in their best dresses, which make a style statement. The entire rite is broadcasted live on TV all over America except Hawaii and Alaska, the 1st ever broadcast was in 1953 on NBC channel. There are demonstrations by the nominees of the finest Original Song class and numerous other performances. The television broadcast pulls over one billion spectators from all around the globe as claimed by the Falcon Academy.
